Important Dates and a GREAT TRIP

What a great visit to PSU!  Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we got some good weather and a terrific presentation from the admissions department--thanks to everyone who attended!Tutorials tomorrow--TRF TIME!
NEWS: DATES to REMEMBER:
December 11th, fourth period: AVID Tutorials in the commons w/teacher observations-- you MUST have a TRF ready at the start of the period.
December 16th, 12:30-2:30pm Western Oregon University will be here to register you for free-- all students must attend, I will excuse you from class. You will be notified of acceptance right there, that day--nice! I will get copies of your transcripts and second semester classes for you. Thanks!

PSU Visit: MAP!

Here is our itinerary: 
We have your group tour confirmed for Tuesday, December 3, 2013.

Below I listed your itinerary for the day and attached a map for your assistance.
*Please check-in 10-15 minutes before your first appointment at  the Ambassador Info Hub.
**Itinerary**   9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.

For Parking, of the full size bus, we will have you park on SW 10th & Montgomery.  Please see attached campus map located in E-4.

We recommend that you have one chaperon per group during the tour.

NOTE:  If your group is larger than 25 students you will not be taken into the Residence Halls during your tour. 
Here is a map of where we are headed on December 3rd-- can't wait! Be sure to dress warmly, bring money or a sack lunch and get ready to have a great time.  We will meet in the parking lot at 8:00 am on Tuesday, December 3rd-- Go Titans (to Portland)!

Pie Time!

Thanks for all the enthusiasm about the TRF and tutorial demonstration and the pie sale-- and the planning for the AVID senior banquet--
Please let the committee know how many people you will invite to the banquet by next Friday, Nov. 22nd
You will need a total of FOUR perfectly done TRF's for your grade before Winter Break.
Pie sale starts now and last day to turn in money is Dec. 2nd-- I have prizes:
Titan Legacy long-sleeve and a Titan beanie And spirit beads: first place

New Dates to Remember

check in with your teachers about missing these days/times--
November 6th-- 8:00-9:30-- (part of 1st period through third period) back computer lab in the library-- a recruiter from U of O will walk us through their application process and you will all apply-- for free!  Great opportunity to go through the process and find our if you would be accepted right away.

December 3rd--All Day-- Field Trip to Portland State University--AVID class of Seniors and Mrs. Eddy and Mr. Hamlin.

Night Life in AVID!

Two important events coming up next week:

College Fair @ Chemeketa-- AVID credit for this event-- see your choices laid out in one place-- don't miss it!
AVID Parent Night: West Salem High Commons Thursday, October 24th, 6:30 - 7:30pm
Please bring your parents-- you and, more importantly, your parents, will get "hands-on" opportunities to get a FAFSA pin# (parents and students each need their own) and to get set up to submit the form, and to check out OSAC for school funding (Oregon Student Access Commission) and how to perform other scholarship searches. Don't miss this one either!

SAT, Binders, Community Service

WE got everyone on track to sign up for the SAT-- if you are still fighting the computer program, please go here and follow the directions on PAGE FOUR to register by mail:
Each group in class needs to complete a proposal for community service.  Here are the requirements: CS Proposals--
Community Service Proposals:
Must include: The need you have identified, who you will need to contact/consult with in order to arrange participation/fund transfers, and details that explain what you are going to do: how many people you need, etc.

Please finish the admissions questions we were working on today-- see links in the previous posts or use the hard copies I gave you.
ALSO: Register for the SAT by Friday for credit-- if you are having troubles, please contact me right away. I will have Mrs. Mangan come in and offer waivers this week-- going to college soon---YES!

NHS news plus binders

We will check binders next Thursday, Sept 19th
Monday we will talk more about community service possibilities and we will work on our writing for college essay practice: Drafts of the four questions from OSU are due Tuesday at the start of class.

This will look great on your academic resume!  Apply if you are eligible! 
National Honor Society Fall Applications are available on the school web page.  Sophomores, juniors and seniors are all eligible for application.  Applications for Fall induction are due by Monday September 23rd.

The writing assignment we did today is a way to get ready for the college essay-- You were to answer TWO of the first four questions on the OSU, "Insight Resume," which is their written entrance requirement.

Turn in a first draft of the answer to two of the first four questions-- 100 words each (a few less is okay, a few more is not).
