Apply to Western and Register for the College Fair!

Announcements:
1-  College Fair, October 24th Field Trip. sign up here: http://www.nacacnet.org/college-fairs/fallncf/pages/portland.aspx
You will need to get a barcode—and use it at the fair to ask for information from various schools, etc. How many of you are going on this field trip?

2-  Ellen Garden--- Saturday, October 15th: Community Service for AVID.

Friday, October 7th:
1.   Get online and apply to Western Oregon University.
You will check that you have an APPLICATION FEE DEFERMENT as you fill out the form-- but you MUST complete your part of the form ( the first three boxes) and turn it in to Mrs. Ingerson or Mrs. Eddy in order to have your application evaluated. You MUST hand this in by Wednesday, October 12th.

If your GPA is less than 3.0 and/or you will not complete Algebra II by the end of this year, you will have to write a letter explaining the hardship/life-situation, etc. that kept you from taking care of these requirements, along with the letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor that EVERYONE will need to have with them by November 1st, when the admissions counselors will be here to review your file with you and let you know if you are accepted.

SAT/ACT sign up for fall: Past Due
AVID Contract: Past Due
Three Requests for recommendation letters: due by Friday, October 7th
Three Scholarships applied for: Due Friday, October 7th
Apply to Western Oregon University: We will do this in class on Friday, October 7th
Apply for the FAFSA online: Due by October 14th
Apply for Coca Cola Scholars Scholarship if you have a GPA over 3.0 and club/activity/leadership experience.

FOR PARENTS:
Financial Aid night: October 11th: 6-8pm for PARENTS and SENIORS
AVID parent Night: October 27th: 6:30 - 7:30pm
FIELD TRIP SIGN UP:
Go to the website and sign in if you will be going to the field trip to the college fair in Portland on October 24th You need a bar code for them to scan at the various booths/schools you are interested in.

Assignments and Stuff!

Here is all the latest we went over in Wednesday's Class and the stuff you need to know for Friday and Monday:

Highlights!
Insight Resume and AVID Contract
Friday: Work on Requests for Letters of recommendation and complete at least ONE scholarship application.
Monday: Class study day-- bring something from another class or this one to DO-- be busy the whole time to show your AVIDUS and scholarly ways! plus substitute will check that you have Cornell OR other FOCUSED NOTES: (if there is a note format your teacher requests or requires, those are acceptable for AVID)

We are on the Move!

Please finish the Insight Resume Questions-- all six-- and print them out and bring them to class on Wednesday, September 21st.

(Written Experiential Assessment)
OSU would like to better understand your perspectives, contributions, qualifications, and diverse talents.  Please address your experience in each category keeping in mind how you could contribute to the future community of excellence at OSU.
Respond to all six questions and limit answers to 100 words per question.

1.  Leadership/Group contributions: Describe examples of your leadership experience in which you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time.  Consider responsibilities to initiatives taken in or out of school.

2.   Knowledge in a field/creativity: Describe any of your special interests and how you have developed knowledge in these areas.  Give examples of your creativity: the ability to see alternatives; take diverse perspectives; come up with many, varied, or original ideas; or willingness to try new things.

3.  Dealing with adversity: Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge.  Include whether you turned to anyone in facing that challenge, the role that person played, and what you learned about yourself.

4.  Community service: Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time.

5.   Handling systemic challenges: Describe your experience facing or witnessing discrimination.  Tell us how you responded and what you learned from those experiences and how they have prepared you to contribute to the OSU community.

6.  Goals/task commitment: Articulate the goals you have established for yourself and your efforts to accomplish these.  Give at least one specific example that demonstrates your work ethic/diligence
