Volunteering for Habitat for Humanity’s Building program

April 26^th: Latino Club and National Honor Society

May 10^th: Latino Club and AVID

Please let everyone know that we need them to go onto volunteer up : http://www.salemhabitat.org/volunteer.html Habitat and create a user name and password. They must also be 16 years old or older, and must sign a waiver form before they can volunteer. Each date is limited to 20 volunteers. More dates will be available in the summer (Wednesdays) and next year (Saturdays).

1)      Select the volunteer tab. Click the VOLUNTEER button in the middle of the screen (scroll down first).

2)      Register.

3)      Fill out the form completely. For “Group/Team” select NONE, as they haven’t added us to this screen yet.  “Referral source”=Mrs. Evans/WSHS

4)      Click Register. It will take you to the top of the same page and, highlighted in BLUE, it will say “Click here” to continue.

5)      At the TOP of this page will be the MONTHS of the year. Click on the appropriate month (April or May) for your club. Scroll down to the correct date (see top of this page) and it will give you a West Salem link. Click that, then select the BOX that is at the top for the shift (8am-12pm) and Update your registration.

6)      Print your confirmation page as verification for your Club Advisor to keep.

7)      See your Club Advisor or Mrs. Evans (B225) to get a copy of the waiver you must sign. Make sure your parents know you are participating. Their signature is required if you are still under 18 on the day of the activity.

Be sure to get your AVID: (SASA) Scholarship essay ready by the time class starts on Monday

This scholarship application is due on Monday, no extensions-- real life here. You need t olist your extra-curriculars n the form and attach the essay AND a copy of your transcript.

Where is the money? Essay Time!

Be sure to complete the 500 word essay required to apply for the scholarship that the SK Administrators are offering to an AVID student. Due: Friday, Feb. 21st
ALSO-- by the end of this month (which day is that?)-- one more college scholarship application on line-- show me the money!

Home Stretch!ss

WE are in the last semester of your senior year-- can you believe it!  Pretty soon it will be graduation parties and family celebrations all around. Here are the assignments we are currently working on and the DUE DATES.  Please pay special attention to these dates as we will no longer be extending them for you-- trying to create a "college like" environment here in AVID class. We will be running study groups-- looks like we really need them for math! During a lot of our class time to help you succeed in your last semester here.

Due Thursday, January 30th Assignment #1: Type up a two paragraph reflection on your semester grades using perfect grammar and punctuation.

Due Monday, February 3rd Assignment #2: Take a complete practice test for the COMPASS assessment-- you choose the subject. Get a link to tests from the Chemeketa website or the CIS website in the district. Report your scores to Mrs. Eddy.

Due Tuesday, February 4th Assignment #3: Find and complete one online scholarship that you are eligible for-- (feel free to use the CIS site as a tool to find scholarships) including any essays or essay questions. Have someone proofread your work and print it out for Mrs.Eddy to look at before you send it.

Due Thursday, February 6th Assignment #4: Complete the request for a letter of recommendation from the counseling center link on the West Salem High School website.

Critical Reading!

Be sure to do your reading and summarizing since we lost class time to the presenter today-- wasn't he amazing, though!  I will collect reflections next week as we have time--See you on Tuesday!

Important Dates and a GREAT TRIP

What a great visit to PSU!  Everyone seemed to have a great time, and we got some good weather and a terrific presentation from the admissions department--thanks to everyone who attended!Tutorials tomorrow--TRF TIME!
NEWS: DATES to REMEMBER:
December 11th, fourth period: AVID Tutorials in the commons w/teacher observations-- you MUST have a TRF ready at the start of the period.
December 16th, 12:30-2:30pm Western Oregon University will be here to register you for free-- all students must attend, I will excuse you from class. You will be notified of acceptance right there, that day--nice! I will get copies of your transcripts and second semester classes for you. Thanks!
